One Great and Noble Cause: ∏ Partners with
the Republic of Cape Verde to Improve Health and Educational
Infrastructure Annapolis, MD (December 2007)
-- After three days of comprehensive talks with the country's
minister of health and other high-level government officials from
the health department, ∏ has entered into a collaborative
partnership with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Cape
Verde to improve the country's medical infrastructure and to
assist in expanding the pool and diversity of medical
specializations within the country. During the
same visit to Prana, located on the beautiful island of Santiago,
discussions with officials from the Ministry of Education have
resulted in a partnership with the country's flagship public
university system, the multi-campus Univasidade de Cabo Verde,
aimed at developing a e-learning-enhanced multimodal educational
infrastructure for the university and assisting in the
conceptualization of a comprehensive 4-year Bachelor of Science in
Nursing BSN program that will graduate and produce nurses with
skills that are as good as any in the world and also meet the
medical needs of the country and its neighbors.
At the conclusion of both meetings, ∏'s CEO, Dr. David OBA
Adebimpe stated that these events represent an opportunity for ∏
to show its true knowledge application capacity and to pursue a
noble cause. E-learning has the potential to revolutionize the
basic tenets of learning as it individualizes learning rather than
institutionalizing it, and emphasizes customized learning
solutions over generic, one-size-fits-all instruction. “The
instructional model we have in mind is world-class, and Cape Verde
is a perfect location to implement such a model as its geography
warrants it. We shall not let Cabo Verde down," Dr. Adebimpe said.
The meetings were initiated by Dr. Mark Rummeli, ∏'s VP for
Research and Technology who was also attending in his capacity as
the International Director of M.O.R.E, a non-profit organization
that provides medical and educational services to low-income
families across the globe. In addition to representing ∏, Dr.
Adebimpe also represented
MedVision Telehealth Solutions, a strategic collaborator in
this effort. After the final day of meetings, Drs. Adebimpe and
Rummeli were treated to an excursion of the beautiful island of
Santiago, visiting Cidade Velha, hailed as the first European
settlement in the tropics and which transcontinental slavery once
made the second richest city in the Portuguese realm. Watch for
some pictures taken during their visit to this beautiful country.
The Republic
of Cape Verde is located on an archipelago in the Macaronesia
ecoregion of the North Atlantic Ocean, off the western coast of
Africa. |
